Diving

Dive into History's Depths: Beneath the surface of Lake Huron lies a hidden maritime museum in the waters surrounding the Thumb.

The treacherous weather and high shipping traffic have left a legacy of at least 22 major shipwrecks, creating an underwater preserve for divers to explore.

In addition to shipwrecks, other diving opportunities are available in the area. Limestone cliffs, sunken islands, and remnants of ships are located along the Port Austin reef, near the Lighthouse. In Grindstone City you can find remnants of grindstone manufacturing.

Thumb Area Bottomland Preserve

The waters of Lake Huron have taken many ships over the years. There are wrecks to explore for all skill levels (even non-divers).
